Town splash through against eight men

James Tennant - one out of four at Moneyfields

Moneyfields 0 Thatcham Town 4

THATCHAM go into the hat for Monday’s Buildbase FA Vase Third Round draw after winning their battle of the table-toppers with the Wessex League leaders.

The game finished four men short with the Portsmouth side having three off and Thatcham having skipper Tom Melledew red-carded in the Copnor mud.

But Thatcham got the four that mattered, Josh Helmore giving them a first half lead and Shane Cooper-Clark adding a second following Melledew’s early second half dismissal.

Goals in the final three minutes from Joel Jacobs and James Tennant sealed Town’s place in the next round.

Good result for Thatcham but why pretend they beat Portsmouth?
