Brothers in the ring for the first time

THAMES Valley ABC’s Patrick Purcell won a unanimous points victory over Slough’s Mohammed Anwar to win his first bout for the club on Burnham’s Jubilee Club show.

The 15-year old was taller than his opponent and used his height and reach to keep Anwar at bay and control the contest, although he was not so tidy when his opponent got in close.

He had to keep at range with his superb jab and right hand catching Anwar and forcing him to take a standing eight count in the second round.

Anwar came back wildly and caught Purcell with a low blow that necessitated recovery time, but he came back to keep his punches straight and was the more dominant boxer.

His 11-year old brother Paul also saw action on the same bill in a skills contest against Alfred Clark from the Jubilee club, the two southpaws throwing consistent combinations and used excellent footwork to box well on their debuts.
