FROM large multinationals to smaller niche businesses, the challenge is on for organisations of all sizes to demonstrate their green credentials.

At home, we think nothing of separating out our cardboard and paper from our plastics and our general waste, but in the workplace it can be harder to engage employees in recycling and waste management projects.

That’s why, by sponsoring the Green Progress Award in the Thames Valley Business Awards 2016, Beenham-based Grundon Waste Management wants to celebrate those companies who are achieving success.

Grundon’s marketing and communications manager, Anthony Foxlee-Brown, is keen for as many Newbury companies as possible to enter.

“We know there are plenty of great environmental projects out there and we want to celebrate their success with this great award,” he said.

“The Green Progress Award is a great excuse to shout about what you are doing, gain the respect of your peers and share your ideas and enthusiasm.

“The category is always hotly-contested and we’d like to see plenty of businesses flying the flag for the town and its surrounding areas.”

Last year’s winning entry came from the LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort, which impressed the judges with its efforts to improve sustainability and waste management, including achieving zero waste to landfill and introducing a dedicated food waste collection service.

On a smaller scale, one of the runners-up was Oxford-based Colourful Coffins, which operates an environmentally-friendly sourcing programme and is involved in carbon offsetting.

Anthony says the judges will be looking for examples such as:
Innovation in environmental performance or design
Recycling and waste initiatives
Cost and/or energy savings through improved environmental management
Long-term sustainability projects or improvements to biodiversity
‘Green’ employee programmes

Grundon, which is the UK’s largest independent, family-owned waste management and environmental solutions supplier, operates throughout the Thames Valley and beyond.

Its team of experts provide specialist advice and tips to a wide range of businesses and have helped many achieve such great results as zero waste to landfill and significant financial and environmental savings for customers.

“Organisations may have something as simple as a car-share scheme to help reduce the number of journeys their employees make, they may have introduced food waste bins in their canteen or undertaken a waste awareness campaign,” said Anthony.

“Whatever their contribution to the environmental agenda, we want to hear about it and the winners can be assured of some great publicity about their success and an impressive trophy to show
off.”

The awards are free to enter, entries close on September 16 and full details can be found on www.businessawards.co.uk
