Newbury homecoming for woman’s fledgling cake business

A Newbury woman who followed her dream by setting up her own bakery business will bring her products back to her home town tomorrow (Sunday).

Evie Chapman is giving up her job with the NHS to start her own business, called Main Street Bakery.

She produces such delights as cinnamon rolls, brownies, monster cake slices and more.

Evie, aged 31, who now lives in Wantage, began the business in March 2025.

She explained: “I was doing cinnamon roll deliveries and breakfast deliveries around Wantage. And then in about June, I decided to do a pop-up because there was only so many deliveries I could do within a morning.

“So, I did a pop-up instead and that's just literally in my driveway outside my house and it is so busy. It's been so popular.

“So, now we're going to move it into the Market Place in Wantage, but also come to Newbury.”

The former St Bartholomew’s School pupil added: “We have received 100 per cent positive feedback and have lots of regular customers already who come week in week out.

“My next step is to sell them from Parkway in Newbury, and we are doing a pop-up shop [tomorrow Sunday, October 5] in Parkway - with plans to also do the pop up in Newbury on a regular basis.

“I can't wait as Newbury is very special to me being my home town.”

Having always enjoyed baking, she is now fulfilling a long-held ambition.

“I've always wanted to do a cake business, and I think I just hit 30 and I was just like, ‘why not? Just do it’,” she said.
