NBS is recognised for its commitment to positive change

Newbury Building Society has won an award at the inaugural Consumer Duty Leadership Awards.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) introduced the Consumer Duty regulation last year to set higher standards of customer protection across the entire financial services authority.

The Consumer Duty Leadership Awards recognises organisations who display leadership, excellence and innovation in embedding Consumer Duty and driving positive change.

A total of 23 companies were shortlisted for awards in London on June 24, with the society holding off strong competition from Monzo and the Association of British Credit Unions (ABCUL) to become the first-ever winner in the Consumer Duty in Retail Banking category.

Melanie Mildenhall, director of customer service at Newbury Building Society, said: “This award is a fantastic endorsement of everyone’s hard work over the last two years, and recognises the exceptional management, innovation, and commitment of everyone at Newbury to go above and beyond for our members.

“We pride ourselves on delivering great outcomes for customers and this award is another testament to our customer-first approach following our Treating Customers Fairly Award win at the British Bank Awards just a few weeks ago.”

Today, with more than 76,000 members, Newbury Building Society is stronger than ever.

The society has around 190 employees with 10 branches across Berkshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire.

Its head office is based in Newbury.
