The Woodspeen among the best restaurants in the world for wines, according to Wine Spectator’s Restaurant Awards 2025
A Newbury restaurant has been recognised for its wines, writes George Cummings.
The Wine Spectator’s 2025 Restaurant Awards, which list the best restaurants for wine around the world, were released last month.
And once again – for the 10th successive year - The Woodspeen has made the list.
It is one of just 1,704 eateries worldwide to achieve the accolade of Best Award of Excellence.
The Woodspeen’s director of wine, Edoardo Amadi, emphasised the large diversity of top tier wines available.
“We’re thrilled to have been recognised once again for the quality of our wine selection,” he added.
“It gives us great pleasure to choose wines that showcase a variety of regions and styles – from a classic Puligny-Montrachet to a Turkish Fumé Blanc, to Grignolino d’Asti, to the hyper-local sweet wine Ortega from the Linden Estate just moments from The Woodspeen.
“Our wines are selected with the greatest care, and to have achieved recognition for 10 years in a row is a wonderful achievement.”
Marvin R. Shanken, editor and publisher of Wine Spectator, said: “A wine list is a restaurant’s identity in print, and this year’s Wine Spectator Restaurant Award winners reflect both deep knowledge and a passion for discovery.
“I proudly present the 3,811 restaurants worldwide that earned a Restaurant Award this year—we raise a glass to all our winners.”
The Restaurant Awards were started in 1981 and award three levels of credit to nearly 4,000 restaurants internationally - the Award of Excellence, the Best of Award of Excellence and the Grand Award.
Found on Lambourn Road, The Woodspeen’s restaurant and cookery school is set in a restored 19th century farmhouse.
