At John O’Gaunt School, the curriculum is forward-thinking, authentic, relevant and meaningful – and this is delivered through highly effective teaching and high quality feedback.
The school benefits from relatively small class sizes and staff pride themselves on getting to know each student as an individual.
This makes for a rich environment, where learning is engaging and inspiring for all and where each student can thrive and develop.
In the ‘Good’ Ofsted Inspection of 2019, inspectors said: “Staff know their pupils extremely well and support them effectively in their personal development… teaching and pupil outcomes are good.”
The report highlighted a range of ‘excellent’ areas across the school, with inspectors giving glowing praise after four years of rapid improvement, including vastly improved attainment and progress.
Being part of the exceptional Excalibur Academies Trust ensures the school receives superb support and challenge, as well as ‘big school’ opportunity. It also enables students to complete their education with A-levels at the outstanding St John’s School, Marlborough.
Academic success is extremely important, but school life is about far more than that.
Alongside strong teaching, the wellbeing and happiness of students underpins the academic curriculum and the school wants every student to gain skills to lead healthy, happy and fulfilling lives.
Staff truly believe their role is to inspire students to know that anything is possible. They want them to know that, with their support, they can achieve their dreams.
They are also proud of the close relationships they have with the local community – working successfully with parents, carers and leaders helps to create generations of happy, thoughtful, confident and successful learners.
Head of School Richard Hawthorne said: “John O’Gaunt is a unique place where we are restless in our pursuit of excellence in all that we do.
“Whilst we offer all the benefits of larger schools, our small size enables us to deliver a personalised approach so students can thrive both academically and pastorally.
“At John O’Gaunt your child will be known. We are really looking forward to meeting students, parents and carers at our forthcoming open events The school is truly going places.”
