Where can you see 100 beautiful Pre-Raphaelite artworks on show?
The Day Dream, by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, 1878-1880, is one of his most remarkable ‘mythological’ portraits of Jane Morris and you can see it in an exhibition currently running at Oxford.
From a sketch on the back of an envelope to grand, elaborate chalk drawings, Pre-Raphaelites Drawings & Watercolours runs at the Ashmolean until November 27.
Returning after its sold-out limited run last year, it offers the chance to view the museum’s internationally-renowned collection of Pre-Raphaelite works on paper.
The exhibition explores the enormous range of techniques and media used by the artists that made up this movement and sheds light on their connections to Oxford, as well as their intimate and often complex friendships and love affairs.
There are more than 100 artworks on show, including works of extraordinary beauty, from the portraits the Pre-Raphaelites made of each other, their studies for paintings and commissions, to subjects taken from history, literature and landscape.
