Sarah McQuaid: a voice “as rich, matured and knowing as the finest thrice-distilled Irish malt whiskey” says fRoots
After its summer break ACE Space starts its new season of gigs on Saturday with internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Sarah McQuaid who, say fRoots, has a voice “as rich, matured and knowing as the finest thrice-distilled Irish malt whiskey”.
She’s known for her lush, chocolatey voice and captivating stage presence and for her incredible work ethic, writes Stephen Ottner from the ACE Space team. Her current tour, from September to November, includes 50 gigs across the UK and US.
Born in Spain, raised in Chicago, and now residing in rural England, Sarah brings a rich tapestry of cultural influences to her music. Holding dual Irish and American citizenship, her eclectic background is reflected in her unorthodox songwriting and diverse choice of material.
Her performances span genres and defy categorisation, making each show a unique journey for the audience. Sarah’s performances are a blend of brilliant musicianship and engaging storytelling. She masterfully plays acoustic and electric guitars, piano, and occasionally the drum, creating a truly immersive experience. Her onstage presence has been described as “subtle mastery” by the Huffington Post and “brilliant musicianship” by fRoots.
Audiences can expect to be mesmerised by her captivating voice and the depth of emotion she brings to each song.
Opening the evening will be Ben Baron, a singer and banjo player from Newbury but now living in Glasgow.
Ben has impressed audiences at ACE Space’s regular Unplugged open mic nights and has previously opened for The Kirals. His music, influenced by Delta Blues, Country and folk, is performed in the old-time ‘clawhammer’ style, adding a touch of traditional charm to the evening.
Tickets are £15 and available from www.WeGotTickets.com or by emailing events@acespace.org.uk or calling 078911 76940.
