Newbury big band pay tribute to Dame Vera Lynn on Remembrance weekend

Newbury's own Apollo Big Band will appear at Basingstoke's Milestones living history museum with the Swingtime Sweethearts and others this Remembrance weekend.

The concert will pay tribute to the late Dame Vera Lynn, Britain's wartime forces sweetheart, with big band music and 1940s swing on Friday and Saturday night. It also features a Churchill look- and sound-alike act.

George Wicks from Apollo said: "The band is looking forward to performing at Milestones Museum as part of the tribute concert. We are particularly proud to be doing this on Remembrance weekend which honours all our military forces.

"A former member of Apollo, Basil King, recently became a Chelsea pensioner and will be part of the parade past the Cenotaph on Sunday."

There will be a collection and raffle on both nights for charities supported by Dame Vera.

Free parking is available outside the museum and on the Leisure Park.
