Celebrating this year’s Refugee Week theme, Community as a Superpower, Rank & File are connecting communities throughout June with a pop-up tour along the GWR line – bringing theatre, music and comedy to unexpected places.

The tour will culminate in Newbury with a performance of a new theatre show Are We There Yet? at The Corn Exchange on Wednesday, June 25.

Are We There Yet? takes a light-hearted approach to serious questions. While the powerful continue to hoard more than they could spend in a lifetime, the rest of us are left wondering: will it ever change? The show invites audiences to reflect on injustice with humour and hope.

Created collaboratively with our participants – many of whom have lived experience of the UK immigration system – the piece is rooted in real stories. Through multilingual storytelling, comedy and absurd spectacle, it delivers a message of unity, truth and compassion.

The performance features original music by acclaimed composer Stu Barker, whose work brings another emotional layer to the show.

After the performance, audiences are invited to stay for a Q&A with the cast, hosted by BBC Radio 3’s Fiona Talkington.

Director Jude Haste says: “This show is about celebrating togetherness and honesty in a time of division. There is still work to be done – but that is what community is for.”

Are We There Yet? is suitable for ages 12+ and is accessible to all. The performance includes BSL interpretation and audio description. The Corn Exchange also has wheelchair access. If you require BSL and would like to be seated near the interpreter, please speak to Front of House staff before the performance.

This joyful, thought-provoking show – created with care, humour and the belief that community really is a superpower.
