Emma Roy is a Newbury silver clay artist. After five years of working with the medium, she recently started to share her passion in making jewellery with others, through workshops at the Westridge Studio, Highclere.

She offers a range of workshops, suitable from beginners, from morning taster sessions, full-day workshops and specialised workshops inspired by nature and the coast.

Emma says: “In my workshops I introduce the incredible material that is silver clay – a product made with recycled silver that is mixed with an organic binder and water. When it is fired the binder burns away and all that is left is pure silver.

“My workshops cover how to shape and mould the clay to make beautiful jewellery.”

The clay is dried and refined before firing, magically transforming it to pure silver jewellery.

Students will learn different ways of firing and how to finish their pieces to give that stunning shiny finish.

“The workshops are designed to empower my students to learn the techniques to enable them to make jewellery from the comfort of their own home should they fall in love with the creative process and silver clay, as I did.”

Emma also offers private group workshops and one-to-one silver clay classes.

She will be running a Silver Clay Taster Workshop at Westridge on June 12, 10am to 1pm, when participants can discover the alchemy of silver clay in a three-hour introductory workshop. It is deal for beginners who would like to try their hand at a new creative skill. They will learn all about the medium and make between three and five small items of jewellery from silver clay.

On June 26, from 10am to 5pm her Coastal Jewellery Making Workshop will teach participants how to capture nature’s beauty in pure silver using real seashells and shoreline treasures.

Are you inspired by the deep blue sea? Go along and try your hand.
