Dolls house fetches staggering £54,560 at Newbury auction
The two day Teddy Bear, Doll, Dolls’ House and Traditional Toy auction at Special Auction Services in Newbury has gone great guns.
Today (Wednesday), the hammer went down on an important mid-19th century English stone painted wooden dolls house which was the childhood dolls house of Katherine Jeffray (1841 to 1929) estimated to fetch £15,000-£20,000.
It went for a spectacular £54,560, purchased for The Soltau Play Museum in Germany. Daniel Agnew, head of Dolls and Toys at Special Auction Services, said: “What a staggering result for a most beautiful, all original mid-19th century dolls' house. It is lovely to find a new home for such a treasured family possession in an equally amazing museum.”

And the section of the Lynda Fairhurst collection of bears went for £27,000 against a £15,000 estimate. Daniel Agnew said: " What an amazing total for part 1 of the Lynda Fairhurst collection, the pre-sale estimated value was £15,000 and they sold for £27000.
"We are delighted at SAS and pleased that all Lynda's bears have found new homes"
A collection of Bergen-Belsen Dolls went for £5,625.
