Aussie folk songbirds Charm of Finches on flying visit to UK

ACE Space is particularly delighted to have the opportunity to welcome Indie folk duo Charm of Finches from Melbourne, Australia, who are on a short UK tour in January which culminates with a concert at the prestigious Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow before moving on to America to take part in the Folk Alliance International festival.

Sisters Mabel and Ivy Windred-Wornes released their third full length album, Wonderful Oblivion, in October 2021. Winners of the Australian Folk Music Awards Best Folk Album (2022) and Music Victoria Best Folk Act (2021), their music has been nominated twice for the prestigious Australian Music Prize. It is their exquisite vocal harmonies plus their impressive musicianship, mastery of many stringed instruments and impeccable song writing that has garnered much critical acclaim.

2021 was a landmark year for Charm of Finches in which they crammed in 106 gigs. That included their first tour outside of Australia, a gruelling four-month across Europe. The tour started with well attended performance at the iconic Holywell Music Room as part of the Oxford Folk Weekend. For the last leg of the tour, they returned to the UK opening for some concerts with the fabled Spooky Men’s Chorale. The tour was particularly challenging as much of it relied on public transport. Wherever possible they fitted in visits to Op Shops (Australian for “charity shops”) to indulge in their passion for vintage clothing and posh frocks.

At ACE Space, and for most of their UK tour, Charm of Finches will be supported by Luke De-Sciscio. Mabel and Ivy can be heard talking about music in their life, and their life in music, and playing tracks special to them on Kennet Radio. The link to that programme can be found at www.kennetradio.com/folk-ace.

Charm of finches will be at ACE Space on Saturday 21st January. Tickets are £15 and available from www.WeGotTickets.com or by emailing events@acespace.org.uk or calling 078911 76940.
