Showing in Newbury, Jonathan Newey the fourth generation artist in his family
Showing on the walls at Ace Space until December 2 is Jonathan Newey, an award winning artist who lives and works in Reading.
He comes from a strong artistic background and is believed to be the fourth generation artist in his family.
Jonathan works in a variety of mediums and subjects but is known for his imaginary impressionistic landscapes in oil and acrylic.
“Throughout my life I have constantly experimented with various techniques and mediums,” says Jonathan.
“My work has always been influenced by nature resulting in work that depicts the natural world in drawings and paintings.
He has extensive experience in art and design having studied Typographic Design at The London College of Printing and has been an art tutor in adult education for more than 25 years.
“Over the past 10 years I have been experimenting with a looser more abstract expressionist form of painting which is still influenced by nature,” he says.
“My latest work is an amalgamation of sketches from life and imagination alongside experiments with colour combinations which are then worked up into the larger paintings using either oil or acrylic.”
Jonathan has work in collections both in the UK and abroad and has exhibited at a number of open exhibition venues including The Mall Galleries, London, West of England Academy, Bristol, Royal Society of Birmingham Artists and The Morphi Gallery, Limassol, Cyprus.
A larger selection of his work can be found on his website https://www.jonathannewey.com/ He is available for commissions.
Work from local artists is exhibited in the two main areas of ACE Space. You can view it at any public events (such as the monthly Unplugged open mic nights and any gig) or by arrangement by contacting curator Jim Crockatt by email art@acespace.org.uk
