BBC’s Mark Radcliffe champions Melbourne folk The Weeping Willows
After a fabulous gig with Melbourne based Charm of Finches, ACE Space are returning to Melbourne this week.
This time for Laura Coates and Andrew Wrigglesworth who are The Weeping Willows. Joining The Weeping Willows will be their Reading-based friends Tomorrow Bird.
The Weeping Willows are known for their captivating blend of bluegrass tradition and gothic Americana. With their haunting harmonies and evocative storytelling, they have garnered acclaim both in Australia and internationally. Their performances are a journey through tales of sunshine and romance, God and the Devil, murder and decay. In July 2022 The Weeping Willows represented Australia in BBC Radio 2’s Commonwealth of Folk hosted by Mark Radcliffe. Mark Radcliffe has championed The Weeping Willows and this latest UK includes a number of gigs with Mark Radcliffe and David Boardman.
Opening the evening will be Tomorrow Bird who are making their return to ACE Space. Jen Bird, a former theatre actress with lead roles in productions like ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ and ‘The King & I’, and Simon Driscoll, a classical pianist turned folk-rock frontman, bring a unique blend of musical backgrounds to their performances. Together, they have written and produced five original musicals, showcasing their diverse talents.
The Weeping Willows will be concluding their UK tour at ACE Space on Friday, July 12. Tickets are £15 and available from www.WeGotTickets.com or by emailing events@acespace.org.uk or calling 078911 76940.
