Royal Marines’ Professor of Saxophone guests at Pangbourne Jazz Club
SUNDAY’S Pangbourne Jazz Club features Simon Bates on saxes with the Terry Hutchins Quartet.
Equally at home in any musical setting from pop and rock, through jazz and funk, to West End shows and even classical music, Simon's versatility, dexterity and charisma are the reasons the Royal Marines and the British Army Bands chose him as their Professor of Saxophone.
Simon is a captivating saxophonist whose soulful melodies and electrifying performances have left audiences enchanted worldwide. With his virtuosity and passion for music, Simon effortlessly weaves together elements of jazz, funk and contemporary styles, creating a unique and exhilarating sound.
His mastery of the saxophone is matched only by his ability to connect with listeners on a deeply emotional level, taking them on a musical journey they won't soon forget. Whether performing on stage or recording in the studio, Simon pushes the boundaries of his craft.
The gig runs from 7.30pm to 10pm at Pangbourne Jazz Club, Rosewood Hall, 1 Whitchurch Road, Pangbourne.
PJC is a monthly Jazz Club, founded by Keith Howard and Terry Hutchins in 2016.
They have great guest artists from all over the UK, bringing the Best of the British Jazz scene on the first Sunday of each month, every month - January through to December inclusively.

July 7: Paul Higgs, trumpet with Terry Hutchins Quartet. Paul Higgs is a highly accomplished and respected trumpet player with an impressive career in many fields including performing, composing and arranging music for film, TV and theatre. He returns with his Miles Davis show.
Aug 4: Derek Nash, saxophone, with Terry Hutchins Quartet. British Jazz Award-winning Derek Nash - bandleader, composer, arranger, record producer and engineer - is one of the UK’s busiest jazz musicians.
Sept 1: Alan Barnes, saxes & clarinet, with Terry Hutchins Quartet. Alan Barnes is a prolific international performer, composer, arranger, bandleader and touring soloist. He is best known for his work on clarinet, alto and baritone sax, where he combines a formidable virtuosity with a musical expression and collaborative spirit that have few peers.
Oct 6: Vasilis Xenopoulos, sax, with Terry Hutchins Quartet. Saxophonist Vasilis Xenopoulos is one of the most accomplished Greek jazz musicians of his generation and a genuine representative of straight ahead jazz. London became his permanent home after graduating with honors from the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Dec 1: Simon Spillett, saxophone, with Terry Hutchins Quartet. "Straight-ahead, high energy jazz is his line and he does it with aplomb" The Guardian. This is Simon's first time at PJC.
