Newbury's Cecilia welcomes springtime with song
On Saturday (March 4), The Cecilia Consort will celebrate the arrival of spring with a concert at St John’s Church, entitled Canticles of Creation.
This ever-popular Newbury based choir will perform selections from Parry's beautiful Songs of Farewell, Rutter's uplifting suite The Gift of Life and a contemporary work by the Portsmouth based composer Ian Schofield.
His Te Deum is dramatic and exciting, based on the Latin Te Deum but with some interludes in English. Originally intended to be sung by a children's choir, the Cecilian sopranos will be in their element as they delight their fans with this special rendition.
The Cecilia Consort is an auditioned chamber choir consisting of approximately 40 local singing enthusiasts. Their 30th anniversary album will be on sale at the concert and is also available as a CD and digital download from their website. Recorded in January last year, the album features many of the Cecilians’ favourites, including works by Howells, Lauridsen and Harris.
Doors will open in readiness for a 7.30pm start and tickets are available from the website www.ceciliaconsort.org.uk or by calling 07775 743 445. £15 for adults and just £5 for under 18s.
