Be part of ART, HEART or COMMUNITY an artwork for Newbury.

Excitement and enthusiasm are building within the walls of City Arts Newbury as the Hampton Road venue celebrate their 10-year anniversary of encouraging more art in the community on October 10, but in the run-up, there are opportunities to join in free all-inclusive events taking place to celebrate this fantastic milestone.

An exhibition of work produced during the many free art workshops offered by the community arts hub over the years is on display until October 12.

Tomorrow (Saturday), running between 10am and 8pm, 10 Hours of Art is a special community project to make a hanging - and you can be part of it.

It will start in the morning with hour-long sessions at 10am, 11am and 12noon) making the ‘community’ – a series of tiles with faces, made of clay with the help of Katherine Kingdon. The tiles will be left at City Arts, Katherine will fire them and they will hang together as a community wall.

In the afternoon the word ART will be spelled out as a giant 3D artwork with Sabrina in three one hour sessions at 1.30pm, 2.30 pm and 3.30pm.

The letters will be made up using cardboard and upcycled colour coordinated elements in red, yellow and blue. They will be then be fixed on a panel to go up the main double height space in the café area.

And in the evening, there will be two one-and-a-half hour sessions with Sarah (at 5pm and 7pm) to make a collective large willow woven heart to hang between the ART and the Community.

“The artwork will represent us all at City Arts as a collective where Art and Community come together.”
