Newbury pantomime nominated for national digital award

The Corn Exchange has been nominated for Best Digital Pantomime in the ⁦‪UK

Following pandemic restrictions, the 2021/22 Plested & Brown panto Cinderella finally went ahead in person, but for those unable to join the audience in the theatre, the Cinderella As Live recording was available so they could enjoy the magic of pantomime from their own living rooms.

Cinderella was "full of traditional Corn Exchange pantomime fun with plenty of jokes, songs from across the decades, and more magic and sparkle than you could shake a wand at".

Co-writer and director Adam Brown told @newbury today: "The team are thrilled to be nominated in the UK Panto Awards - proof that The Corn Exchange pantos are now firmly on the map as a place where you're guaranteed warm, relatable stories which appeal to modern audiences - but above all are very funny and unique to Newbury.

"The team are excited and can’t wait to get going with 'Jack and the Beanstalk' this year."

Corn Exchange director Katy Griffiths added: "We’re absolutely thrilled that our glorious production of Cinderella has been nominated for best digital pantomime at the UK Pantomime awards, and we’re honoured to be in such fantastic company.

"We always wanted to make sure that audience members who couldn’t attend in person would still be able to experience the joy of panto and this award helps show we were able to do just that.

"Pantomime really is a true team effort, and my thanks go out to each and every person who helped to make our brilliant show possible last Christmas. I’m already looking forward to next year!"

Founded last year, the UK Pantomime Association is a new organisation formed to explore, share and celebrate pantomime by investigating the genre’s rich past, engaging with contemporary practice and inspiring the future.

The nominations were at the weekend and the awards ceremony will take place in April.

The Corn Exchange took to social media to announce how pleased they were with the nomination: "Delighted to have been nominated for Best Digital Pantomime in the @UKPantomime Awards! Well done to all the nominees!"
