'Singing fundraisers' Cromwell Singers are performing another concert on Saturday, July 9 at 3pm in the Methodist Church in Northbrook Street, with net proceeds going to Newbury Cancer Care, who are responsible for the four Rainbow Rooms at West Berks Community Hospital.

The concert has a theme of For the Beauty of the Earth and will have an entrance fee of £10 to include interval refreshments, with under-18s free. The programme will feature a range of music plus guest artists Saxello, a saxophone and cello duo with a "quite extraordinarily impressive history, one half has given private recitals for the Queen, and played for the Clooneys at their wedding; the other even now plays with the Manfreds and is clearly a very talented saxophonist". Jude Barnby and Simon Currie play acoustically, with a dash of flute and loop pedal tricks to create the atmosphere of a full band. Playing a contemporary range of music, from jazz and funk to pop covers.

Musical director Trevor Defferd has again invited Jevan Johnson Booth, the accompanist for their April fundraiser, to play with the Cromwells again. She is a graduate of Southampton University and is well known locally as a singer and accompanist.
