LEARN MOREA range of art in many mediums is on display at the Open Studios flagship exhibition INSIGHT at The Base at Greenham.
Organisers say that "all the artists are winners" but a special prize of £100, donated by one of the scheme's artists and supporters Jane Vaidya, goes to Julie Pearson for her ‘Having an Outside’ digital artwork.
The judges, curators Diana Pattenden, Claire Terry and Ben Honisett were unanimous in selecting the winner. Digitial art is a new medium to be included in the scheme and the image struck cords on so many levels with all three.
"Julie is one of 21 new artists gaining accreditation and joining the scheme for the first time this year. The image draws you to consider your mental space in a very poetic, pictorial and truly beautiful way. Come and see the winning piece yourself and see how, among the plethora of high quality art, it may strike a chord for you."
Julie is currently studying for a Foundation Degree in Art and Design at West Dean College and the work was made in response to a college brief Having an Outside. She said: "It's designed to provoke thought and discussion by allowing the viewer to make their own judgements about the individual, consciously or subconsciously based on what is presented on the outside."
The winning piece is available as a limited edition print.
It is on show at The Base for Open Studios and more of her work can be viewed at her studio in Mortimer, alongside five other artists, on Friday, May 20, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22, 11am to 5pm.
