Direct from Broadway, the stage adaptation of Khaled Hosseini’s novel comes to Oxford Playhouse from Tuesday, April 30 to Saturday, May 4.

This unforgettable theatrical tour de force has been adapted by Matthew Spangler and tells the haunting tale of friendship which spans cultures and continents, following one man’s journey to confront his past and find redemption.

The Kite Runner has enjoyed one Broadway and two West End seasons, garnering international acclaim for this incredibly powerful story.

Afghanistan is a country on the verge of war and best friends are about to be torn apart. It’s a beautiful afternoon in Kabul, the skies are full of colour and the streets are full of the excitement of a kite flying tournament, but no one can foresee the terrible incident that will shatter their lives forever.

Written by Hosseini in 2001 while he was practising medicine, this debut novel went on to launch one of the biggest literary careers of all time. He is one of the most recognised and best-selling authors in the world, with his books selling more than 40 copies worldwide.

Now the book bursts into life on stage, adapted by Matthew Spangler, directed by Giles Croft, with design by Barney George, lighting design by Charles Balfour, projection design by William Simpson, composed by Jonathan Girling, sound design by Drew Baumohl, and movement direction by Kitty Winter.

The cast includes Stuart Vincent as Amir, Yazdan Qafouri as Hassan/Sohrab, Dean Rehman as Baba, Daphne Kouma as Soraya, Bhavin Bhatt as Assef, Tiran Aakel as Ali/Farid, Ian Abeyesekera as Gen Taheri, Christopher Glover as Ramin Khan, Aran Mardourian as Kamal, and Stanton Wright as Wali. The ensemble includes Amar Aggoun and Sulin Hasso, with Hanif Khan playing the tabla.

The Kite Runner is produced by Martin Dodd for UK Productions and Stuart Galbraith for Kilimanjaro Productions. It was originally produced by Nottingham Playhouse and Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse in 2013.
