'Uplifting words and music' at Douai Abbey today
Music and Reflections for Advent returns to Douai Abbey in Upper Woolhampton this afternoon (Sunday) at 3.30pm.
At last, after a year in which choral music was brought to a standstill by the Covid virus, choral services have returned to Douai Abbey. The traditional Music and Reflections for Advent will once again be sung in the Abbey Church by the Lay Choir of the Abbey, the Douai Abbey Singers, directed by John Rowntree.
Coupled with this, as always will be reflections given by monks of the Abbey.
This year the programme will include music by Elgar, Warlock, Matthew Martin, Beamish and Rees together with a new setting of the Magnificat written for the occasion by David Bednall.
Dr Rowntree said: "Music and Reflections for Advent offer a wonderful opportunity - a little while of uplifting music and words in the beautiful surroundings of the Abbey Church - in this problematic time and in the busy onrush of Christmas. All are welcome."
