Pangbourne Jazz Club saxophonist famously combined former role as orthopaedic surgeon at Royal Berks Hospital with duties in the bands of Alexis Korner and Stan Tracey
Sunday’s guest at Pangbourne Jazz Club is one of ‘the very few totally original, utterly engaging jazz musicians around’ - Art Themen - who will play with the Terry Hutchins Quartet (7.30pm-10pm).
A fantastically exciting, playful and inventive saxophonist, Art has been a beloved character of the British jazz scene for 60 years, famously combining his former role as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with saxophone duties in the bands of Alexis Korner and Stan Tracey, among many others.
A Henley resident, the former orthopaedic surgeon at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, now in his 80s, frequently plays locally, including at jazz nights in Goring.
Nominated in the 2023 Parliamentary Jazz Awards for instrumentalist of the year, Art is the proud owner of Ronnie Scott’s tenor saxophone.
Jazz@PJC is a monthly jazz club. “We have great guest artists from all over the UK, bringing the Best of the British Jazz scene on the first Sunday of each month. The club has a great atmosphere, great audience and great guests - please come down and enjoy the company and the jazz.”
