Happy 10th anniversary Three Rivers Community Choir!

It's been 10 years since Newbury friends Angie Creed and Caroline Snowdon were looking for a non audition community choir, which welcomed all abilities, genders and ages. They couldn’t find a choir that ticked all the boxes so they decided to start one of their own.

Since then, the choir has gone from strength to strength and for most of these years, the choir was expertly led by Ann Wright, director of education at the VOCES8 Foundation in London.

In 2023, Ann passed the ‘baton’ to Sue Garcia, head of performance at Kennet School and she brings a wealth of musical experience and enthusiasm to the choir.

Despite Covid-19 lockdowns and the restrictions that were placed on all musical groups, Three Rivers Community Choir has maintained its loyal membership and many of its members have sung with the choir from the start.

New members continue to join and expand the range of singers in the choir. They meet on Thursday evenings in term time at Winchcombe School.

“The choir is a really welcoming and friendly place to sing and enjoy the company of like-minded people of all ages and abilities,” said Sue Garcia.

To celebrate 10 years of singing and friendship they’re performing a special concert in Kennet School hall on Saturday, October 19. The programme will include a variety of pieces from pop favourite Bridge Over Troubled Water to the more classical Panis Angelicus.

One of the pieces has been written by a choir member, Ben Tavares, and will have its first public performance in October. They’ll be joined by guests from the Kennet School community including their fabulous Chamber Choir.
