Black Umfolosi, who tour to The Haymarket, Basingstoke, on Friday, September 16, are inspired by the traditional song and dance of their native southern Africa, and their performances are energy driven and completely engaging.

Formed in 1982 by school friends, Black Umfolosi’s trademark harmonies mixed with intricate rhythms are highlighted during their brilliantly choreographed shows. The Gumboot dances showcase the styles and rituals of the South African mining regions and are a particular crowd pleaser.

Black Umfolosi, with so much experience between them, make it their mission to demonstrate and teach others around the world. At their home in South Africa, they acquired land and built an arts centre so that they now train and mentor others, and run local exchange programmes.

Arguably Zimbabwe’s greatest ambassadors, the group have a natural ability to thrill audiences worldwide.
