Hundreds visit Tadley & Baughurst Art Club Exhibition of crafts, textiles and photographs, raising funds for hospice
Just over 200 people visited Tadley & Baughurst Art Club Exhibition at the Ambrose Allen Centre recently, to view more than 150 paintings on display along with crafts, textiles and photographs.
“There were some lovely comments on the variety and high standard of work on display which were much appreciated,” said club secretary Ruth Porter
“This year the club was lucky to have a couple of sessions of live music from students from Rachel Scarlett Singing Teaching, which added to the atmosphere and the enjoyment of the visitors.
“Also enjoyed and appreciated by all, members and visitors alike, were the delicious home-made cakes, scones, quiche and biscuits.”
Visitors were asked to vote for various categories, including small paintings on the theme of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Jane Austen, and models or sculptures made from cardboard.
After the votes were counted the winner for the small paintings was Nicola Scarlett, with Sue Phillips second.
The winner for the models was Jenny Kennish, with Maureen McBarron as runner up.
The main vote was for the Most Popular Exhibit, with a trophy being awarded to the artist whose work came top. This year it was Jenny Kennish’s My Nan’s Kitchen.
Well-known local artist and long-time club member Barbara Feuillade-Cole found time to demonstrate the use of pastels and watercolours in spite of also being booked for part of the local VE Day 80th anniversary celebrations with her reminiscences of being an evacuee.
Mrs Porter said: “All our members paint for their own satisfaction and enjoyment but are so pleased when so many people come along to our exhibition and clearly appreciate our work.
“It was lovely to see them all.”
Every year the club collects for a charity and this year it was St Michaels’ Hospice , raising well over £100 for such a worthwhile cause.
The club is always happy to welcome new members and anyone interested in seeing what they do, can go and visit them.
