In pictures: Old Speckled Hen North West Clog Morris and guests Berkshire Bedlam dance out at West Berks pub
The CAMRA award-winning pub The Bell at Aldworth has lately become quite the hub for morris dancing - Thursday night saw two more sides meet for a dance-out - making five within the last month.
This time the visitors were Old Speckled Hen North West Clog Morris and their guests Berkshire Bedlam, both giving exceptional performances, much appreciated by all the onlookers… plus the odd dog.
Berkshire Bedlam are a renowned Cotswold Morris dance team from Wokingham who perform a wide range of dances, some based on the legendary Leafield dances of Oxfordshire, but the majority are original compositions put together in recent years. They aim to perform “with gusto and spirit” and present spectacular and original performances. They did just that.
Old Speckled Hen North West Clog Morris are a mixed side who practice at Didcot, with people coming from Wantage to Wallingford and Abingdon to Newbury. They dance at local pubs, fetes and festivals throughout the summer.
They enjoyed the evening as much as the spectators, posting on social media: “A great night dancing with those energetic chaps Berkshire Bedlam Morris at The Bell Inn Aldworth. Such a friendly pub, we love meeting up here. Big thanks to the landlord for looking after us so well. Big thanks to BB for joining us for a fun evening. Cheers!”
And Berkshire Bedlam too: “What a delightful evening being the guests of the wonderful Old Speckled Hen North West Morris at the Bell Inn, Aldworth. Always a pleasure to see you dance. No one went home disappointed, apart from the dog.”
