The Base Gallery, Greenham, half-term family day aims to inspire the little ones

Introduce your little ones to the inspiring world of art galleries at The Base’s first ever Family Day on Thursday (February 20), 10am – 5pm.

This half term, The Base will welcome families with children of all ages to experience their vibrant exhibition from the inspirational and globally celebrated artist Yinka Shonibare.

Creative experiences have such positive impacts on young people’s futures, and The Base want to recognise that introducing children to the wonders of art galleries at a young age can feel a bit daunting.

The Family Day is the perfect opportunity to explore the gallery with the whole family: view the Yinka Shonibare exhibition, follow art inspired trails around the building peeking inside the artist studios, and boost your children’s creativity and imagination with free art and craft activities.

The centre of The Base’s Main Gallery will be transformed into a creative space for families with art and craft activities linked to the exhibition. Make masks or crowns, and pose for a framed photo wearing your creation or build a simple mobile to hang up at home. Find out more about Shonibare’s journey to becoming an artist and explore a world map to find out where his work has links to.

Whether you and your children simply want to look at beautiful, vibrant artwork and spend quality time together, or you want to explore hidden stories and cultural identities through Yinka Shonibare’s inspiring work, the Family Day will provide plenty of indoor half-term fun.
