Hypocrisy and misogyny continues down the centuries in Newbury opera company’s next production Susannah
REHEARSALS start at the beginning of September for Kennet Opera’s production of Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah, which will be performed in Shaw House from January 30 to February 1.
Conductor David has agreed to be the musical director for the show.
Based on the biblical story of Susannah and the Elders, the setting is in mid-20th century America.
The themes of hypocrisy and misogyny, continuing down the centuries, are reflected in the treatment of the Church elders towards a young woman.
Kennet Opera will be delighted to welcome new singers.
The first rehearsal is on Wednesday, September 3 at 7.30pm in the Majendie Hall, Speen Church.

Kennet Opera was founded in 1994 to bring grand opera and concert song to Newbury and the surrounding areas.
“Opera is at the heart of what we do, and we staged a major production, sung in English, every year between 1994 and 2019.”
From 2020 to 2022 they were still able to present concerts, outdoors and then indoors too. From 2023 they returned to staged opera productions and remain “a singing family, united by our love of opera.” And they want to hear from singers, musicians and people from all the arts and crafts behind opera.
