Opera company's September gig disrupted by resumption of holiday travel

Kennet Opera has announced that its outdoor concert planned for Shaw House lawns in September will not now take place.

With holiday travel possible once again, Kennet reckons that too few of its singers will be available for the event to go ahead.

However, the Newbury-based company did open their summer concert season last Saturday in great style, at a Jubilee Picnic and Opera Evening sponsored by Hungerford Rotary Club. The well-attended event was in the town’s Croft Hall, with an interval outdoor picnic on the Croft.

In spite of a chilly evening, the rain held off and the audience returned enthusiastically for the second half.

Kennet will appear in Hungerford again next week, as part of the town’s Summer Festival. They will be singing in the Croft Field marquee on Thursday, July 7, at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from Fare Wise Travel in the High Street and online from hungerfordsummerfestival.co.uk

They are priced £10.
