Laura Evans may be best known as ‘Madison Square-Gardens’ in the Basil Brush Show but she has a powerful country/blues voice which might sound more at home in Alabama than in her native Abedare. She has a new album about to be released and a headline tour in her own right starting next month.

Appearing tonight with only a guitar accompaniment, she has already received airplay on BBC Radio 2 and Planet Rock as well as appearing as a special guest on tour with Robert John and the Wreck.

She opened with Solo followed by Superman, a track she wrote about her husband.

She is building a catalogue of catchy bluesy tracks, which are well worth checking-out.

She finished her 35-minute set with I’m Alright, having mightily impressed the near capacity audience.

King King have their own followers who happily travel long distances to see them (one had travelled from Barcelona to see them tonight) and they won’t have been disappointed.

This was a fantastic high energy set of blues rock, with the emphasis on rock.

King King feature some truly breathtaking extended rock guitar solos from brothers Alan and Steve Nimmo and since their formation in 2008 they have built a formidable reputation as well as a great back catalogue.

Frontman Alan explained that while they were meant to be touring a new album now, it is not ready because they refuse to release anything which doesn’t meet their exacting standards.

They did, however, treat us to a few tracks that will be included on that forthcoming release.

Opening with More Than I Can Take and Let Love In they delivered a blistering 90-minute set which proved their credentials as one of the most exciting rock outfits around.

They finished with the anthemic singalong I Will Not Fall before the thoroughly deserved (and fitting) encore of Find Your Way Home.

Great rock in the best tradition of the genre.

Fantastic.
