What your country needs is Red, Green & Blue says Newbury artist
Artist Paul Forsey, known locally for the Newbury Mosaic outside the town centre library, suggests how we can lift our spirits in these difficult times, with his exhibition of colourful new paintings as part of the Art in the Foyer series at New Era Players' Theatre in Wash Common.
Following the success of his exhibition of devotional paintings at Lambeth Palace, with one being chosen for the Archbishop’s Christmas card, he takes some of his new abstract paintings out of the studio and shows them as a group for the first time.
Paul’s work embraces a number of genres; abstract, landscape, devotional, all exploring themes of strong colour and pattern, chaos and order, storytelling and spirituality.
Red, Green and Blue are unapologetically abstract paintings, pared down to the essentials.
Think of them as fugues of colour, with melodies and refrains common to all, and performing gracefully with each other.
They are bright and shiny and sparkle.
They are carefully and sincerely made.
They are designed not to challenge, but to cheer you up.
And, as he asks, couldn’t we all do with a bit of cheering up at the moment?
You can meet the artist at one of the coffee mornings (dogs welcome), 10.30am-noon on Saturdays February 25, March 11, April 1 and 22.
