'Newbury's independent businesses are thriving'

Independent café Mrs Bs Kitchen, at the end of Faraday Road, invited four local working artist/makers to sell their art and crafts last Friday in a gesture to support fellow creative businesses.

On show were the beautiful hand decorated and thrown cups, bowls and plates of potter Ursula Waechter, intricately detailed pen and ink drawings of local trees by Amanda Bates alongside her handmade sketchbooks, maker Sarah Jane Gordon sold unique sea-inspired hand-printed cards, Christmas decorations and artwork, and GoMa Apparel displayed their funky unisex T-shirt designs inspired and printed during Lockdown in addition to hand-made masks, scarves and bags.

Speaking on behalf of the group of artists, Sarah Martinez of Newbury business GoMa said it had been "A wonderful day meeting interesting people, with the delicious smells wafting from the kitchen. Newbury's independent businesses are thriving."
