My Wildlife photography competition at The Base, Greenham: And the winners are…

Running parallel to the Natural History Museum touring exhibition Wildlife Photographer of the Year, which opened on Friday at The Base, Greenham, is My Wildlife. This is a wonderful exhibition showcasing the 40 images that made it to the final of the competition held earlier this year - 20 from young photographers aged under-18 and 20 over-18s.

The competition was launched back in February and was judged in April by a panel including Newbury Weekly News’ photographer Phil Cannings, local professional photographer Simon Booker and Newbury Weekly News Arts Editor Trish Lee, who whittled the entries down to the final 20 in each age group. These finalists were put forward in a Facebook online vote over the weekend of May 15-18, when the public selected their winners.

And the winners were:

Under-18s:

Everly, 'Hawthorne Shield Bug'
Everly, 'Hawthorne Shield Bug'

1st place – Everly’s 'Hawthorne Shield Bug'

Grace Hope, 10, Lapwings Flying * editor's note: This was one of my particular favourites, says Arts Editor Trish Lee, as the lapwing or ‘peewit’ has suffered significant decline it is now on Red List of Threatened Species. So not only is it difficult to spot this farmland bird but to capture the image of them in flight, in perfect sync is something special
