Launch of West Berks space for 11-18s to make, create and record music

Berkshire Maestros are organising an exciting half-term music event at the Waterside for young people aged 11-18 and are looking for any young people who are performers, singers or in a band who would like the chance to perform live.

The event is taking place on Wednesday, between 5pm-9pm, and will launch the new ‘Music Lounge’, an exciting new safe space for young people in West Berkshire which offers them the opportunity to make music, create music and record music.

Berkshire Maestros CEO Dawn Wren said: "We are excited to be working in partnership with Berkshire Youth and VoxThrive to develop a weekly programme of activities for young people, and any funds raised at this event will be split between the three charities to support local young people."

The project aims to support all young people, but specifically those who are vulnerable or experiencing challenging circumstances.

Ms Wren added: “I am thrilled that Berkshire Maestros is at the heart of what promises to be many exciting musical opportunities for young people in and around Newbury.

"We strongly believe in supporting all young people and what better way than in partnership with two such wonderful charities.”

The launch promises to be a brilliant occasion for local young people to perform live, allowing them to invite their family and friends to watch and support them.

Berkshire Youth CEO David Seward said: “Berkshire Youth is delighted to be working in partnership with Berkshire Maestros and VoxThrive on the launch of the Music Lounge to bring further opportunities to local young people. "

"The recent renovation and refurbishment of Waterside Centre, in the heart of Newbury, has enabled this to happen.

"We are excited about all of the new opportunities we are able to offer for our young people from Waterside Centre.”

Kat Penn, the chairwoman of trustees of VoxThrive, said: “As a new charity, I am especially pleased that VoxThrive has an opportunity to work with two established local charities who share our aim of improving the lives of young people in this area. We are passionate about the role music can play in supporting mental health and excited that the Music Lounge can provide access to music resources in a new way for Newbury.”

By working collaboratively we hope we can expand our offering and reach more young people by “teaching music and changing lives”. Everyone is welcome for what we hope will be an inspiring evening of live music from local young people.
