1963 dashcam of Jaguar MK2 drive from London to Bath takes in Newbury and Hungerford

A 10-minute film posted on YouTube shows a drive from London to Bath in a MK2 Jaguar by George Eyles from July 1963.

The film was posted by Wiltshire Byways nearly 10 years ago and as you follow the driver's journey there are some recognisable landmarks along the trip down memory lane.

The route taken by Eyles follows the A4 road, although he does go on one bit of the 'new' motorway, where he experiences a bit of 1960s road rage (about one minute in).

The video has had nearly 53,000 views and the driver goes through Reading, Theale, Newbury, Hungerford and Marlborough before arriving at his destination.

George Eyles joined the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) when it launched in 1956. Its aim was to improve road safety and driving standards. Mr Eyles became director of tests and he retired in 1984.

It's well worth watching the whole reel, but if you're only interested in certain bits Wiltshire Byways has helpfully provided timings of the various towns Mr Eyles drives through.

Here are some of the key moments: 1960s Road Rage 1:16; Reading 1:41; Theale 2:16; Newbury 3:10; Hungerford 4:16; Marlborough 6:08.
