Newbury the international centre of urban sketching retreat for coming week

The excitement of sketching together is the shared experience of a place, the discovery through looking and recording what you feel.

Story Telling in 3 Acts is a week long international urban sketching retreat being held in Newbury from tomorrow (Saturday, July 13) to 20 July, with sketching leaders Inma Serrano, Victor Swasky and Santi Salles.

The team at Pushing Your Sketching Boundaries is very happy to return to Newbury after eight years to teach another of their multi-day sketching courses. In 2016 their Pushing How to Look course allowed 30 participants from as far as Norway, Ireland or US, as well as various UK cities.

This week Inma Serrano, Victor Swasky and Santi Salles, will be leading their groups in a sketching retreat about story telling, allowing participants from UK, Germany, France, Netherlands, Spain, Canada and US to discover Newbury and beyond through exercises in sketching. The retreat will be based at City Arts Newbury.

For those that want to learn more about urban sketching and storytelling, the exhibition Story Telling is running concurrently at City Arts, in Hampton Road, showcasing a variety of Inma Serrano, Victor Swasky, Santi Salles and Newbury artist Isabel Carmona’s drawings telling stories of places each in their own inimitable styles.

The Story Telling exhibition is free to visit and is open to the public Thursday to Sundays 10am to 4pm to Sunday, July 21.

“We can’t wait to see the filled sketchbooks at the end of the course and to welcome the international visitors to enjoy their sketching retreat in Newbury. You may see them as you walk around Newbury next week, hopefully in the sun, drawing what they see and experience to take home great memories of Newbury,” said Isabel.
