Rummage about at Newbury Watermill's costume and props jumble sale next week

Apologies to anyone who turned up today to the Watermill expecting a rummage. The Watermill Costume and Props Jumble Sale takes place next Saturday (October 22) between 10am and 2pm.

It should be fun rummaging through the hats and accessories or dive for fabulous fabrics among the costume rails. The sale is part of the Bagnor theatre's commitment to be more a sustainable and eco-conscious venue.

It’s an opportunity for the theatre and the local community to reuse and recycle together, helping to keep clothing out of landfill that can easily have another life in a new home.

It's also a great opportunity for schools and community theatre groups to snap up some gems, from modern clothing and vintage garments to bespoke theatrical costumes with some costumes, furniture and props having featured onstage in recent productions.

For example, the magnificent cloak of The Eldest Magician seen in last summer’s adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories, pictured below.

Also in the sale is an array of panto costumes, animal suits and fancy-dress items, which wouldn’t normally be found among The Watermill collection, perfect for young people’s dressing-up boxes.

All the money raised from the sale will go towards the theatre.

With items from as little as £1, there will be something for everyone. Entry is free, no pre-booking is required. The Watermill has free parking onsite and refreshments will be available in the bar.
