Hallowe'en treat: West Berkshire pumpkin pickers can choose their own at Donnington kitchen garden

Husband and wife kitchen garden suppliers have created Boyd's Pumpkin Patch for Hallowe'en.

If you are looking for somewhere to pick your own pumpkin then Sibby and Philip Boyd have more than 1500 of all shapes and sizes at their Pumpkin Patch in Arlington Lane, Donnington opposite Mary Hare School.

This is the first year that the Boyds have ventured into supplying pumpkins for the Hallowe'en season, but it seems they have cultivated a bumper crop.

Mrs Boyd said: "We have pumpkins of all sizes and we have some Ghost Pumpkins too [a variety of pumpkin with a white skin]."

Beale Park have already been in touch with the Boyds and reserved 40 of the pumpkins for its own Hallowe'en-themed activities, but the rest will be available for people to pick between October 27 and 31.

Entry is free to the site, but you will need to book your slot in advance any time between 10am and 4pm, when you go and pick and purchase your pumpkin.

Mrs Boyd, who gave birth to the couple's second child recently, said: "We want to make it a fun experience, so we are planning of placing a few Gruffalo-themed scarecrows around the field and we will be offering refreshments."

She advises anyone coming along to wrap up warm, although fancy dress is definitely encouraged, and wear appropriate footwear. "Wellies might be best!"
