Newbury theatre school students triumph in national competition

Students who attend a part time theatre school based in Newbury, have emerged victorious in the prestigious Synergy Dance Championships in Aldershot, renowned for showcasing the best dancers from the region.

Razzamataz Newbury principal Debbi Ledwith said her students gave “an extraordinary display of talent, dedication, resilience and teamwork”.

The youngsters from Razzamataz, part of the multi-award-winning Dragons’ Den-backed franchise, “astounded the judges with their awe-inspiring performances, combined with technical prowess and artistic expression”.

Synergy Dance Championships is a new elite dance competition that provides young dancers with the opportunity to compete in a professional and friendly environment across the UK.

“What is even more impressive is that the students were up against others that attend schools that just focus on the discipline of dance, with students practising for hours to pull off a highly technical number.

“The Razzamataz students become triple-threat performers, learning dance, drama and singing, so although they don’t get as long to perfect their dance skills, this competition clearly shows their high level of training.”

This was just the second time the Razzamataz Newbury students had entered any competition with their recently formed Comp Squad.

Both the Junior and Senior students entered, with Juniors performing Stick It To The Man from School of Rock in the Musical Theatre section and the Seniors performed Stranger Things in the Urban Dance section and Dancing Fool in the Musical Theatre section.

Juniors won their category and Seniors had a first for Dancing Fool and a second place for Stranger Things.

“I’m so proud of the way the students approached this competition, the way they worked together in rehearsals through to supporting one another at the actual event,” said Debbi.

“To see them working so hard and then be rewarded is a huge privilege as their principal. They showed commitment, energy and professionalism throughout the event and their dedication truly paid off.

“As their principal, witnessing their growth and success fills me with immense pride. It's moments like these that remind us of the power of teamwork, determination, and passion. I have no doubt that these students will continue to be successful in all their future endeavours, both on and off the stage.”

The victory at Synergy Dance Championships is a testament to the comprehensive training provided by Razzamataz Newbury. The school cultivates a holistic approach to theatre education, empowering students to develop their confidence so they can find their unique essence while honing their technical skills in the three disciplines of dance, acting and singing in both musical theatre and commercial genres.

Daniel from Seniors said: “The competition was pretty awesome.

“I love performing with the Squad and my Razz Family. We worked so hard and I’m glad that we got to create such a memorable experience together. I am really looking forward to the next competition.”

Razzamataz Newbury is dedicated to nurturing the next generation, providing them with the skills, mentorship and opportunities necessary to thrive in not only the world of performing, but in whatever area they choose to follow.

They are looking to welcome more children, age two to 18, to join their weekly Saturday classes and take part in various performing events and masterclasses with industry experts.

Debbi is taking enquiries to book new students in for a free taster day, early booking is advised.
