One of the country’s best known saxophonists, Simon Currie, guests with Newbury big band
Tonight’s Jazz@Stockcross (Friday, March 1, 8pm) features The Apollo Big Band with Simon Currie at The Sutton Hall, Church Rd Stockcross, RG20 8LN
Simon, from Newbury, is one of the country’s best known saxophonists. He has toured extensively including world-wide tours, but he is perhaps best known for playing with the Manfreds and Paul Jones for 20-plus years.
But Simon has a wonderful pedigree, having played with great artists such as Peggy Lee, Brook Benton, George Benson and groups including The Four Tops, The Temptations and many more.
This will be a great evening of entertaining Big Band music, including many well-known favourites of the genre plus some more recent compositions and arrangements such as those by Gordon Goodwin.
Simon says: “I am looking forward to being the solo guest for the Apollo Big Band and I will be playing many instruments. As the evening goes through I will be explaining what makes jazz, jazz.”
Tickets: Adults £12 and under-16s
£10 on the door.
