Sing For Fun celebrates 20 years of bringing joy and harmony to the community through music
Sing For Fun is celebrating 20 years.
Sing For Fun is a community choir where everyone is welcome to join no matter their singing ability and this is their 20th anniversary year, marking two decades of bringing joy and harmony through music.
The group has experienced remarkable growth, with choirs across Berkshire, in Reading, Goring, Newbury, Andover, Basingstoke and Stockbridge and membership numbers tripling over the past two years.
To celebrate, Sing for Fun hosted a spectacular ‘Big Summer Bash’, where all six choirs from Berkshire and Hampshire came together to showcase their talents at The Fieldgate Centre, Kingsclere, in July. The event featured over 100 performers, captivating the audience with a diverse range of musical performances, from musical theatre and pop to rock and jazz pieces.
Sing for Fun has also been offering a number of special workshops to its members, including the popular ‘Showstopper Summer: Les Misérables' series. These weekend workshops provide singers with the chance to belt out classic hits like 'One Day More' alongside friends, accompanied by a live pianist. Due to popular demand, a second Les Misérables workshop, with a brand new range of songs from the show, is scheduled for August 31 at The Fieldgate Centre in Kingsclere, with spaces still available to sign up!
Looking ahead, Sing for Fun has exciting plans for its members in October, giving them the opportunity to record their very own album, featuring a range of fan favourite songs from across the years, and creating a lasting memento of the group's 20th anniversary celebrations.
Director Hannah Baron took over ownership of Sing For Fun in 2021 and has more than 15 years of experience producing and directing musical theatre shows. She expressed her excitement about the group's achievements: “I am overjoyed to see Sing For Fun growing and thriving! The choirs provide such a sense of community, and the friendships that have been made over the past 20 years will last a lifetime. I’m delighted that we are able to bring together so many people who just love to sing, regardless of any prior experience!”
At Sing For Fun everyone is welcome. There are no auditions, no solos, and no experience necessary. Just the chance to sing with others and of course, have fun! It’s all about creating that feel-good factor to group singing by shaking off the shackles of a more formal choir and putting the emphasis on inclusivity and fun. There’s no better time to join, as a new Sing For Fun term starts in September.
