A Summer of Slow Making: creative workshops Summer School in a beautiful 18th century coaching barn

THOSE lovely mindful creatives from the Modern Makers Collective are back with A Summer of Slow Making: Creative Workshops in the Beautiful Oxfordshire Countryside on July 26 and 27 and August 2 and 16.

In a world that moves fast, sometimes the most rewarding thing is to slow down.

This summer, the Modern Makers Collective, the group that organises the fabulous Yattendon Christmas Market, invites you to do just that with a series of creative workshops designed to let you switch off and make something new with your hands.

Over three weekends, nine exceptional artists, designers, and craftspeople will share their skills in jewellery, floristry, embroidery, textile printing, straw work, basketry, lino printing, and lampshade making.

These supportive and inspiring sessions are ideal for both beginners and those with more experience.

The workshops will take place at Coaching Barn, Littlestoke Manor Farm in Wallingford.

Among the many highlights is the opportunity to design and print your own linen fabric with textile designer Albert Harvey. Your hand-printed design will be transformed into a unique cushion, created especially for you after the workshop.

Those interested in jewellery can join Alexandra von Widdern to create meaningful pieces inspired by personal stories, or explore traditional silversmithing with Charlotte Berry, who will guide you through wax carving to make your own silver jewellery.

Lampshade maker Aimée Alice Payton brings a stylish twist to fabric and light with two hands-on workshops. You can choose to design a bespoke scalloped-edge shade, or a contemporary freestanding lampshade with an integrated light fitting. Both ideal projects for those who enjoy working with colour, shape, and interiors.

There are also workshops in straw plaiting, basketry, embroidery, and printmaking, as well as the chance to make a wreath using fresh garden blooms that will dry beautifully and last throughout the year. All workshops include materials and refreshments, with delicious lunches available from The Goring Grocer.
