Dare you encounter The Spirit Engineer?

Based on a true story, AJ West's The Spirit Engineer has received fantastic reviews and has been longlisted for a Historical Writers Association Golden Crown award. The gripping, gothic novel which is anchored in the political and spiritual chaos of Edwardian Belfast, is based on a true story.

AJ West is an award-winning former BBC journalist, radio broadcaster and author. He has written for national newspapers and magazines and has appeared on national television programmes, including BBC Breakfast, Good Morning Britain, This Morning and the legendary reality television show, Big Brother.

He says: The inspiration to write The Spirit Engineer appeared, appropriately enough, one dark Belfast night in the middle of a winter storm. I was reading Harry Houdini’s diaries when the great magician mentioned, in passing, a meeting with a ‘mad’ professor. Crawford’s story is virtually unknown, yet any novelist would struggle to find a tale steeped in such gothic tragedy.
