Hungerford 17-yr-old produces his own Dr Who audio series

SEVENTEEN-year-old St Barts student Sebastian Brown is releasing the second of his own self-penned Doctor Who audio series, starring many fellow students from Newbury. It will be available from tomorrow (July 31).

Sebastian, from Hungerford, started work on a Doctor Who film in the summer of 2019 which had a huge influence on the audio series that followed, with many of the plot lines and ideas that he had introduced developing further in the series.

Series 1 Episode 1: The Bigrel Invasion aired on YouTube on November 23 last year and from that moment, Sebastian’s thoughts turned to Series 2.

He said: “Coming back to do another of my Doctor Who audio series, I knew I had to up the stakes and use the new episodes to expand the characters and the world they inhabit.”

The series comprises five episodes, The Orb of Rassilon, The Voyage to the Unknown, Scraps, The Parallel Invasion and The Last Farewell – all connected in a series-long arc, rather than having each adventure separate with a running theme as he did in his first series. “I felt this was needed, as a change to the format ensured I was not retreading old ground,” he said.

Sebastian persuaded a majority of the cast to return for the new series, with Louise Gubbings and Lucas Hutchings reprising their first series roles as the companions Jenny and Don.

But with the Doctor Tom May leaving his role, Sebastian searched for a replacement, before taking it on himself because “I simply could not find anyone else who wanted to do it”.

From the outset he intended Series Two to be the last, so he worked towards a grand final episode, following the same Cybermen and featuring The Master. “I felt they would be the best choice as they are not only two of the oldest villains on the show, they are both really interesting concepts and fun to write stories around.”

Tom Strachan-Jago took the role of The Master after sending in a recording of a monologue that is delivered in the opening episode:The Orb of Rassilon.

The new series will start on July 31, with an episode coming out at 5.30pm every Saturday until August 28. It is available on Sebastian’s YouTube channel Brown Productions.
