Andrew Lloyd Webber drops into Newbury theatre to see their 'terrific' revival of his Whistle Down the Wind

Yesterday's matinee audience (Saturday, August 27) at The Watermill were in for a surprise as the Bagnor theatre welcomed Andrew Lloyd Webber to their unique actor-musician version of Whistle Down The Wind.

Lord Lloyd-Webber, one of the co-creators of this famous musical who lives in Sydmonton, watched the matinee performance before meeting the full company, including one of the teams of young people who are part of the show.

The Watermill's artistic director Paul Hart and executive director Claire Murray said: “We were so pleased to welcome Andrew Lloyd Webber to The Watermill and our production of Whistle Down The Wind.

"Our intimate and rustic space is the perfect location for the piece which is set in a barn, and it was great to get Andrew’s brilliant feedback on this new actor-musician production – the first major revival in 11 years.

"It was really special for the cast and particularly our young actors to meet him afterwards when he congratulated them on their terrific performance.”

The Watermill’s ‘outstanding production’ of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s thrilling musical, Whistle Down The Wind, runs to 10 September. Tickets are priced from £15, with discounts for under 30s and can be purchased by visiting watermill.org.uk or calling the box office on 01635 46044.
