GENerate student arts exhibition kicks off 2023 at The Base Greenham
A show of the next GENeration of artists and makers is running at The Base Greenham until January 29, as the Student Arts Exhibition kicks off 2023 exhibition programme.
Featuring artworks from six local schools, sixth forms and colleges, this curated exhibition is a showcase and celebration of imagination and creativity of young artists aged 11 to 19, featuring 2D and 3D work from painting, ceramics, sculpture and textiles.
The participating schools are Newbury College, Mary Hare School for the Deaf, Basingstoke College of Technology, Cheam School, Downe House and iCollege Alternative Provision.
Gallery manager Stephanie Johnson said: "We feel very strongly that local young artists deserve a platform to show their work and get a taste of exhibiting in a professional setting.
"Our hope is that being involved in a project like this will inspire these talented young people to take their passion further after they leave full-time education.
"We were incredibly impressed by the standard of work submitted for inclusion in this, our first student art exhibition it made the curation process extremely difficult. It's a fantastic way to kickstart 2023 in our gallery."
Launched in February 2019 on Greenham Business Park, The Base is the home for visual arts and crafts in West Berkshire, with high quality touring exhibitions presented throughout the year, a bustling workshop room for courses and classes, as well as resident artists making on site.
There is also a wide range of workshops, events and courses, all led by skilled creative practitioners and artists. There are new introductory classes in glass, figure drawing and acrylics for those looking to learn new skills, as well as more advanced life drawing, watercolours and pastels courses.
