Silver band to team up with former BBC Radio 2 Young Musician of the Year Sheona White,




World Class Talent comes to Wantage

On Saturday, June 28, Wantage Silver Band (WSB) will team up with former BBC Radio 2 Young Musician of the Year Sheona White, to perform an evening of some of the best brass band repertoire at The Beacon, Wantage.

It will be a night to remember, with something to appeal to all members of the family.

Described as The Voice of the Tenor Horn, Sheona is a highly acclaimed musician who has served as principal tenor horn with some of the world’s most prestigious brass bands.

Her long list of individual achievements include becoming the first female winner of the British Open Solo Championships, the award for Best Soloist at the British Open Brass Band Championships, and being selected as a finalist for the Cosmopolitan Women of Achievement Awards.

Sheona will be accompanied on stage by Wantage Band, who are positioned at the top of the WSB pyramid which boasts more than 200 members. Competing in the championship section, the band attracts talented players from all over the region.

Under the baton of musical director Chris King, the band strives for musical excellence, performing to the highest standard in concerts and contests both locally and throughout the UK.

Wantage Silver Band are also hosting a workshop with Sheona in their very own bandhall complex on Tugwell Field.

This is an incredible opportunity to explore a variety of different topics around playing and performing, ask those burning questions, and to make music as part of an ensemble led by the tenor horn guru herself.

Speaking about the upcoming concert, Sheona said: “I am really looking forward to visiting and working with Wantage Band and performing some of my favourite solos!

I am also excited to meet lots of tenor horn players at our workshop. I am thrilled to be the band's guest this year!”

Sheona’s visit to Wantage is an absolute must for musicians and supporters of all ages.

Wantage Silver Band is an amateur brass band organisation, based in the small market town of Wantage, Oxfordshire. The organisation currently comprises nine bands, possibly making it the largest brass organisation in the country. ‘Wantage Band’ is in the prestigious Championship Section and performs and competes all over the country. The band is proud of its large setup including three contesting bands, non-competitve Community Brass, three learner bands, a big band and percussion academy.
